Jacques Futrelle

Jacques Futrelle (1875–1912) was an influential American journalist and mystery writer, best remembered as the creator of the brilliant, eccentric detective Professor Augustus S. F. X. Van Dusen, famously known as "The Thinking Machine". He died tragically during the sinking of the RMS Titanic.
